What have we become?

A whiplash of a reminder that we
Ain’t anymore just about culture, art, scriptures or colours that we claim to be,

We’re now a land of bigots – Bigots who drench hearts of people in every shade of fear,
Bigots, who mercilessly, abduct, drug, rape, kill, bury and desert an unassuming girl, all of eight years,

Bigots, who terrify mothers into shielding their tots in the safety of their wombs, bigots, who send
Chills down every girl’s spine when she decides to step out – fiend or friend,

We live in a threatening, deafening silence
That sears the heart, shattering it into shards of panic – yet we choose to remain mute audience

When daughters are violated and slaughtered for vengeance
In the name of caste, community, religion and creed, irrespective of age, colour and attire, to make do for their forced abstinence,

We are now a land of rabid partisans,
Partisans, whose malevolent souls are frozen into hollow nothingness.

Rest in peace, Asifa.

I hoard books for a living. And read them too, when I am not sleeping. I express what I think, so my unheard feelings don't sink. I like to sing when I walk, to keep shades grey, at bay. I speak like a dork, but I don't want to drive anyone away. I write what's real, and nothing fake, so visit my blog whenever you need a break ;)
